Windows 7 – How to display file extensions

File extensions are usually preceded by a full stop and indicating the format of the file. By default file extensions will be hidden in windows file explorer.
Follow the below steps to display the file extension in windows 7


  1. Open Windows Explorer (or Use short cut Windows key + E)
  2. Click the Alt button on the keyboard to display the file menu

  3. Then select Tools and Folder options
  4. Open the View tab then de-select ‘Hide extensions for known file types’
  5. Click ‘OK’ to save the changes
  6. File extensions will now be visible in Windows Explorer.
